The Portland Avenue Business District chose to protect, preserve and enhance the Native American history of our community.
As one of Tacoma’s newer organized business districts, Portland Avenue has chosen to build upon its connections to the Puyallup Tribe and ways in which the Native American history of the community can be protected, preserved and enhanced. With several new multi-million dollar Tribal projects completed and underway, including the Emerald Queen Casino, and 1,200 new housing units being developed through a federal Hope VI redevelopment of the Salishan community, Portland Avenue is poised to capitalize on the burgeoning retail, residential and industrial redevelopment of Tacoma’s east side. Association membership reaches all the way down the avenue to the “Four Corners” of Portland & S. 72nd.
